Selling Your Home

When preparing to sell your home think about how your personal decorating style may affect prospective buyers. You want your home to be clean and cluster-free and as neutral as possible so prospective buyers can visualize how their furnishings will look in your home. And keep in mind, there is a difference in how you live in your home and how it should look when it's on the market.

What does your home say when prospective buyers walk in the front door? Since your front entry is your home's first impression, you want it to be as inviting as possible.

Lighting is valuable. A home that has a lot of natural light is highly desirable to prospective buyers. So open curtains, raise the shades and let the sun shine in! Move large furnishings away from your windows if they block the light or view. Lighting is inexpensive and effective way to enhance your home.

Unclutter all areas of your home to create an impression of spaciousness. This will help buyers view your home as a roomy place to live. Rid the garage, attic and closets of extras. Organize your closets. Clear off countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms. Also remove excess furniture that crowds a room.

Unpleasant odors! Make sure there are no unpleasant odors such as smoke or pet ordors. Nothing will kill a sale quicker than a bad smell.

Curb appeal is important. Keep the lawn well-trimmed and edged. Also keep shrubs and bushes trimmed. Put away lawn equipment, toys and other outdoor items. Check the exterior surfaces of the house for needed repairs or/and paint necessary areas.
