North Carolina ABCs of Public Education

The ABC's of Public Education is North Carolina's accountability program designed to improve student achievement, reward excellence and provide assistance to those school that need extra help.

At the elementary level, the testing formula takes into account scores on reading, writing and math.
At the middle school level, the 8th grade Computer Skills Test results are also included.
At the high school level, the ABCs' results are based on the performance of the same student over time in eleven core End-of-Course tests:
- Algebra I
- Algebra II
- English I
- English II
- Geometry
- ELPSA
- United States History
- Physical Science
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
The high school formula was modified in 2001 and is more rigorous than in past years.
